PLANT CARE & TIPS

It is our goal for you to be a successful gardener. Please make every effort to follow through with the care of your new plants upon receipt of them. Please be thoroughly informed about the plants you have selected and the hints listed below.

We are extremely confident about our product and only sell the highest quality plant, what becomes of them once they leave our growing facility is another story.

Please be sure to follow the guidelines posted below:

Carefully unpack your new garden additions. Give them a drink of water and make them at home, much like you would any welcomed visitor.

If you have received your order early in the season, you will have to HARDEN OFF the plant against extreme temperature drops and excessive sun and strong wind.  Do not place outside

until all danger of frost has passed. This is extremely important.

During the day time hours when it is most warm, place you plant outside in a protected location for an ever increasing amount of time each day.  This helps acclimate the plant to a permanent home outdoors. Be sure to bring them in if the temperature suddenly dips.

If it is during the growing season. it is crucial to get your Perennial Express plants in the ground as soon as possible. They’ve had quite a journey from our nursery to your door. They are eager to get in your garden and get growing. Please don’t delay in taking care to plant them.

Follow the growing instructions on each plant tag. Take care to situate the plant in the cultural conditions it requires.

Once a proper hole is dug for the plant and soil amendments are added if necessary, plant your Perennial Express plant according to tag instructions.  Water deeply.  Water regularly until it is established. Obviously your weather is a consideration in the amount of watering you do.

You can use a liquid fertilizer following the manufacturer’s label directions. We also recommend using a slow release fertilizer, keep in mind that soil temperatures must be 70 degrees or above for them to be activated. Avoid putting the fertilizer directly in contact with the plant roots because it will burn them. So time may elapse before the plants are actually receiving nutrition.

As the season progresses most perennials will re-bloom with a little help from  you.

If you snip off the spent blooms you will encourage the plant to re-direct it’s energy from seed production into pushing forth a new flower, and thus prolonging the blooming period of your garden. It keeps the garden clean and fresh looking, and is quite cathartic.
